Welcome to my little corner of the internet! My name is Emily, aka herminia blue. I am a makeup, hair, and fine artist based out of Queens, Nw York - I also happen to be legally blind, caused by a rare eye condition called Stargaedt's Disease (a recessive-genetic form f Macular Degeneration).
Art has been my spark of light since before I could read or write, whether creating it myself or enjoying others' creations. Since I was a young child, I have been expressing myself using a wide variety of mediums, including acrylic and watercolor paints. With art, I am able to create what I want to see, rather than forcing my eyes to see what is already there. My paintings offer a glimpse into how I see the world, both through my physical eyes and my third eye. I also often explore themes of mental illness and femininity. I have a fascination with faces, as I don't see facial features clearly at an average distance. I particularly enjoy painting faces for this reason (both on canvas and on human faces!).
I very naturally developed a passion for fashion throughout my childhood and teens, experimenting with makeup looks, hair styles, and clothing designs. After years of experimenting with my own style as well as styling others, I completed cosmetology school in 2015 and began my journey as a professional hair and makeup artist. From photo shoots (fashion, beauty, editorial, e-commerce), to film shoots (short and feature films, music videos, commercial, special FX), to special occasions (proms, weddings, fashion shows), I offer makeup and hair services for any occasion.
It is my goal to combine my passion for self-expression with my passion for spreading awareness about blindness in the most creative and loving way as possible. I want to teach others that people who are blind can enjoy any flavor of art and fashion (and use both as a tool for self-expression) just like the rest of the world - we may just need adaptive methods and tools to do so.
Thank you for checking out my creations, and thank you for any purchases you may make! I do hope they bring you as much joy as they did for me to make them. xoxo hb
